About this yoga & service retreat

What you will experience

As any other country, Curaçao also has its struggles. One of the biggest challenges the island is facing is the stray animal population. The number of neglected and abandoned dogs wandering the streets is truly disturbing. Despite many efforts by countless organizations, the problem still remains. So for this very reason 109 teamed up with the local non-profit, Curaçao Animal Rights Foundation (CARF), who has been tackling this problem with incredible dedication and forethought, rescuing hundreds of dogs since 2008. CARF rescues and re-homes abandoned, stray and neglected dogs and is the oldest hands-on no-kill animal rescue on the island of Curaçao. For this retreat, a portion of your ticket will go towards all the materials and supplies needed to fix and renovate CARF’s rescue home, so not only will you help to fund this project, but we will work together to bring it into fruition!

BOOK MY SPOT
About the location

Curaçao

Curaçao is a Dutch Caribbean island – sister of the islands of Aruba & Bonaire – and is known for its beaches tucked into coves and its expansive coral reefs rich with marine life. The capital, Willemstad, is famous for its pastel-colored colonial architecture, the floating Queen Emma Bridge and the sand-floored, 17th-century Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue. In short, Curaçao feels like a little piece of Europe on the edge of the Caribbean, with glorious hidden beaches, amazing onshore snorkeling and diving, and a wild undeveloped windward coast.

Meet the Team

Yulady Saluti

Yoga Teacher & Breast Cancer Survivor

Yulady Saluti never stops moving. She is a Yoga Alliance certified yoga instructor who has appeared in DVDs with Tara Stiles and Deepak Chopra. She has rocked her yoga on television with Sadie Nardini. After battling and overcoming a serious colon rectal medical condition, which required she live with a colostomy for four years, Yulady dove head first into a new, healthy life filled with yoga and studies in Ayurveda. It was only three years into her practice (and during her 20th surgery related to her former illness) that her doctors discovered that she had Stage 2 breast cancer at the age of thirty-two.
Yulady battled cancer successfully and continued to teach and practice yoga to help heal from her medical problems. Ever graceful and full of life, Yulady continues to inspire with her indomitable will to heal herself and teach her students how to persevere through any situation.

Gerald Saluti

Yoga Teacher & Personal Trainer

Gerald Saluti is a student of the movement of the human body. With a background steeped in athletics, Gerald molded his passion for movement and his study of anatomy into a dedicated yoga practice. He took his first yoga class over 10 years ago and was drawn both to the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga. Intrigued, he attended his first teacher training, numerous yoga workshops, festivals, and events and with a long-standing desire to teach yoga, embarked on a new chapter of his life.

Gerald is known for his classes that focus on linking breath to movement with a heavy emphasis on core engagement and the interplay between the recruitment of different muscle groups. Gerald’s classes are designed to challenge you but also leave you peaceful and serene. By moving the body towards physical limits in asana, and connecting movement with breathe, his students learn how to unlock a new mental clarity and overall sense of wellbeing. He is the father of six beautiful children and the devoted husband of Yulady Saluti. If you want to be challenged, nurtured, and uplifted, Gerald has what you need!

Laura Lochmann

Athlete & Coach

Laura grew up in Northern Wisconsin, where her athletic pursuits consisted of a variety of sports through out grade school to high school but nothing really “stuck” except for dance. After moving to Madison, Laura realized she needed to find a way to get active again. Her mom was actually the person who got her to her first CrossFit class and after that she was hooked. Her mom beat her at that free community class, but Laura couldn’t let that happen again. So she signed up the next day.

When she is not at the gym, Laura enjoys reading realistic fiction and researching nutrition as well as getting outside and hiking, camping, or spending time with her dogs.

As a coach and leader, Laura wants to make sure that every person who walks in to class feels welcome and knows that no matter what the work out is they will get better that day. She feels that the best part about being a CrossFit coach is helping individuals achieve goals that they never thought possible.

Still Have Questions?

Please email us at [email protected] if you have any questions at all or if you would like to receive the schedule for this retreat. We would love to hear from you!

I came into this experience with unfathomable trauma, anxiety, depression and truly a loss of myself; yet, I left having redefined my self-love and self-care, strengthened my voice, and grown in love for another community and people. Through this week and all the experience beyond, I am learning that I truly am my own healer, hero and leader. Thank you for keeping my heart soft and until we meet again, may 109 continue to change the world with its presence, action and intention.

Caitlin Beauchamp109 Mexico

I'm so thrilled at there being more and more opportunities for women to come together and see how much power we have communally. It is important for our thriving and survival to create environments where women can form coalitions rather than put each other down (which is what culture has been telling us to do for so long). So we truly need that safe space.

Anastasia Standrik109 New York

This experience was so much more than I had expected. The professionalism around a difficult topic, the caring and supports in place for participants went beyond what I could have imagined. The yoga was again very professional, therapeutic but most of all fun! We became life long friends bonded by this mission and I believe that we will all come home and make a difference here in our communities as well.

Lindsay Baker109 Sweden

I was looking for several months for a trip that would help rejuvenate my mind/body/heart and help me stay on a purposeful and happy path in life. When I saw this trip I knew it was exactly what I needed, and 109 did not disappoint! The group of women were all genuine, supportive, and so fun. The personal growth from practicing yoga, learning Muay Thai, and raw conversation was exactly what I needed to experience on the beautiful island of Samui.
