Escape with 109 World and Hug It Forward to Guatemala next Spring Break, March 2019. This journey will allow us to explore the beautiful culture of Guatemala while working side-by-side with community members in the building of new bottle classrooms. What better way to spend Spring Break than providing a safe, clean, and comfortable educational atmosphere where rural and indigenous children will be able to learn and grow for generations to come?

This journey will be 6 nights, 7 days starting on March 17th and ending on March 23rd. The trip costs include:

  • 7 days, 6 nights at hotel Casa Antigua and Albergues De Tecpan (when working at the community)
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Daily yoga and meditation
  • Visit to Mayan Ruins and Antigua City
  • Transportation to and from Guatemala City Airport (GUA) to/from hotel. You will  need to land by 4.00 pm on the March 17th to ensure you arrive for orientation and opening night dinner

*All participants will share a room with another participant. If you have a roommate request or special accommodation needs, please email us at info@109world and we will make sure to accommodate your needs!

This trip will be in support of Hug It Forward, a non-profit organization that facilitates education and awareness around improved trash management methods via the construction of bottle classrooms in Guatemala. Bottle classrooms are constructed using eco-bricks, which are plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash. During the project process, entire communities come together to build a more environmentally responsible educational space for their future. Bottle classrooms are built on 100% community volunteer effort, and from the creation of each eco-brick to mixing cement, all unskilled labor is donated by volunteers visiting and the local community members. All skilled labor is provided by the local municipality, via a project agreement they have with Hug It Forward.
