About this mindfulness retreat

What you will experience

This retreat will be your time to stop your mental busyness so you can actually experience the here and now. The stillness and the pauses in our life make our experience full and meaningful. The time we take to reflect and be mindful gives us the space and awareness to fully experience the life that is always happening through us, all the life we habitually overlook. By the end of our 109 Mexico retreat we promise you’ll settle into the pace of pure mindfulness and nature – a pace where the best moments are spent watching the pelicans fly in formation over the sea, volunteering at the permaculture farm & turtle sanctuary , filling your lungs with fresh ocean air during yoga, getting dusty exploring the local ecosystem and being inspired by a remarkable community.

Booking opens in June!
About the location

Playa Viva

Combining simple elegance with natural beauty and a commitment to improving the environment and the local community, Playa Viva is a sustainable boutique hotel located on the western coast of Mexico, just 35 minutes south of Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport. Nestled between the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains near the village of Juluchuca, Playa Viva is situated on a mile of pristine and private beach.

The property’s nearly 200 acres includes an estuary, an Aztec archeological site, a turtle sanctuary, and a coastal forest and mangrove ecosystem which supports an array of stunning wildlife. Playa Viva is close enough to the trappings of modernity yet worlds away providing immersion into the wonders of nature, and escape to utter private relaxation.

About the volunteer work

Playa Viva Permaculture Farm

The last two years we have volunteered with La Tortuga Viva and together with their incredible team we have built a turtle sanctuary and a community space for educational sessions! This year we are going to back to Playa Viva and volunteer at their permaculture farm! We will still help La Tortuga Viva with maintenance work at the Sanctuary, but this year a portion of your ticket will go towards the materials needed for us to help build a natural education center at the Permaculture Farm – instead of concrete we will be using clay and bamboo, how healing does this sound! Creating this space will help the team at Playa Viva and the Farm to educate and empower the local community to take care of their ecosystem while taking care of their local people.

After being on 3 trips with 109 now, I continue to be amazed at how different each experience has been for me. On my first trip 2 years ago, I was in a very different place in my life than I am now. I was in the middle of multiple personal struggles and was looking for a way to move my focus from my pain to helping address the suffering of others in whatever way I could. 109 gave me that opportunity. Each time I return, I continue to learn more about myself, become more conscious of the challenges facing our world and how I can do my part to help, and have made some lasting friendships. I consider this an invaluable experience and look forward to many more journeys together!

This trip changed my life forever, and not just because just it is perfectly thought out, and heart fully procured and the actions toward the causes were so necessary and worthy; but, because of the authenticity of the 109 team and the joy created by their lead is unmatched. The growth and impact together with all the other incredible humans through 109 travel experience is really.... there are no words. You must go.

109 Zion truly lit up my life and sparked a fire. It's been about a month now since I went and experienced the magic of the location, coaches, yoga teacher, 109 crew, and amazing women I met there and I carry them with me each and every day. The work and magic we started while in Zion has impacted my world tremendously in the last month and I'm actively seeking to continue to have it grow and benefit my world and my relationships.

Kathryn Sutter109 Zion

I came into this experience with unfathomable trauma, anxiety, depression and truly a loss of myself; yet, I left having redefined my self-love and self-care, strengthened my voice, and grown in love for another community and people. Through this week and all the experience beyond, I am learning that I truly am my own healer, hero and leader. Thank you for keeping my heart soft and until we meet again, may 109 continue to change the world with its presence, action and intention.

Caitlin Beauchamp109 Mexico

I was looking for several months for a trip that would help rejuvenate my mind/body/heart and help me stay on a purposeful and happy path in life. When I saw this trip I knew it was exactly what I needed, and 109 did not disappoint! The group of women were all genuine, supportive, and so fun. The personal growth from practicing yoga, learning Muay Thai, and raw conversation was exactly what I needed to experience on the beautiful island of Samui.
